About Safa Hand of Mercy Foundation

Who We Are

Safa Hand of Mercy Foundation is a growing humanitarian nonprofit dedicated to supporting vulnerable families through food assistance, healthcare access, and empowerment opportunities. Our work began with small, community-led efforts and personal support for families in need — and now, with your help, we are building programs that will reach even more people. We believe that compassion is a powerful force, and that no family should be left behind in moments of crisis.

Our Mission

To provide compassionate aid to families experiencing hunger, poverty, and hardship — beginning in Afghanistan and California, and expanding to communities around the world.

Serving families in Afghanistan, California, and communities around the world with dignity, compassion, and hope.

Our Vision

A world where every family in need receives dignity, care, and opportunity — regardless of where they live or what they have endured.

Our Founder’s Story

My journey began in Afghanistan, in a home touched by hardship. My father served in the Afghan Army, and when his health declined and support disappeared, I became responsible for caring for my mother, my brothers, and my sisters. There were many days when we had almost nothing to eat — but I learned early that responsibility and compassion were stronger than fear.

During the years when the U.S. Army was in Afghanistan, I served as a cultural advisor and interpreter, helping American troops understand and communicate with local communities. Through that mission, I witnessed poverty, displacement, and the deep suffering of families who needed support. I also helped many families through my work, and my sister was able to continue school and eventually graduate from medical school — something I am incredibly proud of. When I came to the United States, life was difficult again. My English was weak, and I had to start from zero. I worked at Apple and then began driving Lyft and Uber. I drove long hours — sometimes three or four days straight, sleeping inside my car in San Francisco — just to support my family in America and my siblings back home who were still studying. For many years, I supported two families at once:
my children here, and my brothers and sisters in Afghanistan.

These struggles, sacrifices, and experiences shaped who I am. Today, I work in healthcare and am earning my degree in cybersecurity, but I have never forgotten the people who are still living the pain I once lived.

That is why I created the Safa Hand of Mercy Foundation
to turn my story into a mission to help others.

To honor my father’s service.
To support families who feel forgotten.
To give hope to those who have none.
And to teach my children that compassion is the greatest legacy.

This foundation is not just an organization —
it is the story of my life, transformed into a mission of mercy.
